Now available on the App Store and Android Market, Jiaozi Junkie is an authentic dumpling maker app made in China by the Qingdao-based company Bluefir Media. Jiaozi is the Mandarin Chinese word for dumplings, and these traditional treats are enjoyed all over China on major holidays such as the Chinese New Year.

HOW TO USE

Jiaozi Junkie is the best phone app dedicated to the making of jiaozi. Users make the dough by combining water, flour, eggs and salt. This dough will be used later to roll out the jiaozi skins. Next, the filling ingredients are chosen from a menu of meat and vegetables such as pork and cabbage or beef and carrot. After the filling is prepared, the dough is rolled out in a long tube shape, and small ping-pong ball sized bits of dough are pulled off and then rolled flat. The prepared filling is then put into the skin, which is folded and creased to form the emblematic partial moon shape of the jiaozi. Once they are all formed, the jiaozi can be boiled. Within minutes, you can see the fruits of your labor served on a beautiful china pattern plate, next to a traditional tray of condiment selection of mashed garlic, vinegar, soy sauce and red pepper oil. Bon appétit in Mandarin Chinese is “Duo Chi!”

Those who use Jiaozi Junkie will have a new appreciation for the process of how to make China’s most famous holiday food. The Jiaozi Junkie app includes some recipe instructions and ingredient list. Jiaozi Junkie works with 2.2.1 and later versions of Apple's iPhone and iPod touch. WiFi and 3G are not required to use this app. Jiaozi Junkie is now available on the App Store for 1.99 USD.
